Dealing with groundwork, we cannot avoid seeing those big digging machines in different colors - whether it be yellow, orange, or else. These machines are called "Backhoe". In Thai, the name has been creating confusion. There are many names for the word backhoe - makko, รถขุด (rot kuud), etc. which one might ask: How is it actually called?

The word backhoe is an English word that is combined with two words which are back and hoe. Together, the word, therefore, means "A machine that can dig/excavate from behind
The official way to call a backhoe is a backhoe loader. Officially in Thai, one could call it รถตักหน้าขุดหลัง (rot tak na khud lang) or shortly "backhoe", just like in English.
